ORAL AND DIGITAL

STORYTELLING

Dr. Bhat has completed her oral storytelling training at Capital Storytelling in Sacramento and also her digital storytelling facilitator training at StoryCenter in Berkeley CA.

After having participated as a student as well as a volunteer in the workshops in the past year and in her current role as the 2022 Storytelling Ambassador at Capital Storytelling, she found oral and digital storytelling to be a creative, cathartic and healing process. As the Ambassador, Dr. Bhat developed and facilitated a series of virtual oral storytelling and story writing workshops for those who identified as immigrants and refugees. As a an educator and storyteller, Dr. Bhat is excited to use storytelling to educate, train, and teach others to share their stories, thus fostering social change.

In a workshop titled "Stories of Home" facilitated by StoryCenter, she co-created a short film titled "Dear Aayee". With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Dr. Bhat shared a true personal story titled "Everyone Knows Someone" at a 2022 event "Immigrant Stories" by Capital  Storytelling (the story starts at 11:40).
